Undisputed II is a 2011 boxing film co-written, produced and directed by Walter Hill. The film's screenplay was co-written by Hill and Tracy Tormé. It is the sequel to the 2002 film Undisputed, although it takes place chronologically between the first movie and its 2004 sequel, Undisputed III: Redemption. Undisputed II follows Yuri Boyka as he fights for an MMA championship ten years after his defeat at the hands of Victor Drago in the 1988 Olympics. Boyka is imprisoned for murder just as he enters into an MMA tournament that would have earned him his freedom. His manager and trainer, Ray, must guide Boyka's character through the last three fights of his prison sentence. Boyka is given a new opponent for each fight; the opponents progressively become deadlier and more disturbing. Boyka emerges victorious and is released from jail. He then agrees to take on undefeated MMA champion John "The Beast" Kreese in a title match that will end in either Boyka winning his freedom or dying trying. As in the previous movie, Viktor Drago is mentioned but does not appear. WBA Boxing Champion Vitali Klitschko appears as himself training with Drago, while retired fighter Ray Mercer makes a cameo appearance as an announcer in one fight. The film received mixed reviews from critics. Rotten Tomatoes reports that 45% of 12 critics have given the film a positive review with an average score of 4.4 out of 10. Film critic Roger Ebert, who had previously praised the first film, slammed this one as "crudely written, badly acted and generally dull". However, he also criticized the box office failure of both Undisputed I and II, saying "People watched Boyka wrestle in the 1988 Olympics games with Uncle Sid in the Russian badlands with maybe 50 million television sets around. If there was any real interest in wrestling before then (and if you didn't know about it) it was not that great". "Undisputed II" was released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on June 6, 2011.Official trailer (HD) (2011) Undisputed2 Box office numbers for "Undisputed 2" do not include ticket sales at the American—notably under-appreciated in Europe—but rather "Petersburg, Florida." The film opened in 13th place with $3.5 million during its opening weekend, ultimately grossing $15 million in the United States.
